Bike Skills Training

Mr Pearse asked one person from Room 12 at Wednesday's Meet Up (really called Monday Meet Up) to stand up and tell the school why we had our helmets with us. He asked Kohnar to answer. Kohnar said “Today Room 12 is doing the iWay bike skills learning day.”

Room 12 had heaps of fun on our cycle training - this is what we (Alyx and James) had to say:

This is  Alyx’s opinion :
Some of our class said that they learnt the skill of pedal tapping. I learnt how to paddle tap and brake properly. The technique of braking is to use both brakes and then when you get to the stage you are going to fall off you lean to your left then put your left foot down as soon as you have tilted. Room 12 had heaps of fun and it was a great experience for us (even though some of us did it last year).

This is James opinion :

On Wednesday we had to do bike training our first lesson was getting on the bike. The first thing to getting on a bike is to hold both brakes tilt it towards you and put your right leg over the back wheel. Then when we finished doing that then we moved to lesson two. We got into some games to practise pedal tapping it's where you go from 1:00 o’clock to 3:00 o’clock. Once we had learnt it we played a game it was called the Box Game.

If you want to learn the Box Game it goes like this. You get a group named Sharks or Tigers and one team stands on the outside and the other team  bikes around in the middle. When you put your foot down that's when you are out and you go and be the box. The leader will say take a step forward as people come out, the last 2 biking are in the finals and both teams get 2 turns each which means 4 players from each team or less if they win 2 rounds. I did not get in finals but I enjoyed playing.  Alyx’s team was sharks, James’ team was the tigers.
It was really difficult and you had to go really slow. We also had a turtle race and a game where you had to race around the circle and beat the other opponent.
