Values at Camp
Values at Camp
Last week, Room 12 & Room 14 went to Mountain Valley for Camp. We had a brilliant time, and did lots of exciting activities.
This week, Mrs Beaver has set us a task to make a presentation that shows people that we saw on our camp showing our Mahora School Values. We were able to choose any presentation tool that we thought would be able to show this.

Our Marble Run Writing
On the first day of the term we came in to class we saw cardboard and we were like "what was going on?". Then Mrs Beaver gave us some paper and it said The Marble Run Challenge!! We had to make a Marble run with a buddy. My buddy was Monaro and we built the box.
Here is some of our writing about our Marble Challenge.

Our visit to the Life Ed Classroom
Today Room 12 were lucky enough to visit the Life Education Classroom and meet Anne and Harold.
We were learning about feelings. We talked about how to identify the way we are feeling, or how to know how other people might be feeling. We learnt that we might feel differently from someone else when we do the same thing - like someone might feel happy if we go swimming, someone else might feel anxious or scared. Or when we watch a scary movie - some people might be happy about this, and others might get worried. We thought about lots of things that would make us feel happy, sad, worried or angry.
Anne told us that when we see other people we might notice from their face or body language how they are feeling. We talked about ways that we can help them.
One of our favourite things about the classroom was the cool blue lights! We thought it would be cool to have these in Room 12!

Marble Runs to start Term 3!
Marble Runs
Today we started off our busy Term 3 in Room 12.
When we walked into our class there was a pile of cardboard, tubes, boxes and all sorts of other things that Mrs Beaver had been cleaning out!
After we had Monday Meet up to welcome some new adults to our school and to say congratulations to Tuhourangi (more on that later), we were set our marble challenge.
We had a look at our Values and our Graduate Profile - and worked hard to choose the best spaces and people to work with. We had to choose someone to work with who would help us to complete the task!
Next we got started with the planning and creating stage!
This was just the beginning... we will post more photos tomorrow!

Capture the Flag
Capture the flag is a cool game that our class loves. We play it often!
To play capture the flag you need to have 2 teams, 2 rugby balls and a field. Both teams have a ball on each side that they have to protect. To protect the other team from taking your ball you need to tag the other team when they get close. But there is a half circle around the goal post where the ball is and if they get through they are safe. You can only tag others if they’re on your side of the field and if you get tagged you have to stay there until someone from your team helps you get to the other side.
This game is really fun! :-)

Some of our movies... so far!
This is Aden's Movie - he made three different Steam Traction Engines for his movie. He also shared his movie with Team Tahi at our school!
This is Kieana and Wyatt's Movie - they made a whole cast of awesome characters to help them tell the story.
Our next step is to add titles, music and credits to our movies. We might also add some narration!
Stop Motion Animation
On the first day of Term Two we made a stop motion animation. It is a movie made out of lots of photos. We all got into groups and made characters out of clay. We had to base our movie on a healthy lunch.
Some people’s movies didn’t work because we used two different apps. One worked and one didn’t.
The best part was that Shannon got to squash our characters with her foot. The worst part was that our movie didn’t work! Everyone had fun creating their own story and making it 3D.

Stop Motion Animation Day!
Today was our first day back for Term 2, and what a busy day we had!
This morning we had a Monday meet up first thing, then we moved into thinking about Stop Motion Animation and what makes a great Stop Motion Movie.
We recorded a few ideas with our buddies and then made a story board plan.

Once we had made our plans, then we were able to begin creating! And what an amazing amount of creating we did!
Here are some of the pictures of our day today, showing us working together, being creative, solving problems, helping others, doing lots of thinking and persevering!
We will post some more pictures along with some finished movies tomorrow!

Bike Skills Training
Mr Pearse asked one person from Room 12 at Wednesday's Meet Up (really called Monday Meet Up) to stand up and tell the school why we had our helmets with us. He asked Kohnar to answer. Kohnar said “Today Room 12 is doing the iWay bike skills learning day.”
Room 12 had heaps of fun on our cycle training - this is what we (Alyx and James) had to say:
This is Alyx’s opinion :
Some of our class said that they learnt the skill of pedal tapping. I learnt how to paddle tap and brake properly. The technique of braking is to use both brakes and then when you get to the stage you are going to fall off you lean to your left then put your left foot down as soon as you have tilted. Room 12 had heaps of fun and it was a great experience for us (even though some of us did it last year).
This is James opinion :
On Wednesday we had to do bike training our first lesson was getting on the bike. The first thing to getting on a bike is to hold both brakes tilt it towards you and put your right leg over the back wheel. Then when we finished doing that then we moved to lesson two. We got into some games to practise pedal tapping it's where you go from 1:00 o’clock to 3:00 o’clock. Once we had learnt it we played a game it was called the Box Game.
If you want to learn the Box Game it goes like this. You get a group named Sharks or Tigers and one team stands on the outside and the other team bikes around in the middle. When you put your foot down that's when you are out and you go and be the box. The leader will say take a step forward as people come out, the last 2 biking are in the finals and both teams get 2 turns each which means 4 players from each team or less if they win 2 rounds. I did not get in finals but I enjoyed playing. Alyx’s team was sharks, James’ team was the tigers.
It was really difficult and you had to go really slow. We also had a turtle race and a game where you had to race around the circle and beat the other opponent.
